Risk assessment - Miss Georgiou

Here is a copy of my risk assessment which I completed prior to the filming of my production:

Creating a risk assessment prior to the filming of my production was essential as without having done so there would be no legal document to prove that I had consider the various different risks which may occur throughout the production of my music video and put steps in place so to ensure that my production would be as safe as it possibly could. This is important as when you are employing people to work with/for you not only is it ethically right to ensure their safety but it is also a legal requirement.

Not only did planning out the risk assessment enable me to make sure that the entire production crew as well as actors or extras were aware of how to prevent issues but it also ensured that I provided clear instructions as to what to do if these issues are still not prevented with this added effort. For instance if I was to simply state on my risk assessment that breaking a camera would be a risk to the production and then told everyone involved in the production how to prevent this from happening which may well be helpful as it provides those involved with rules to follow so to avoid such damage unfortunately accidents do happen. The team being aware of a risk and having been provided with tips to avoid it isn't enough, if something is to go wrong then there would be no set guide or structure for the team to follow hence completely ruining the production as without a camera there would be no or limited footage and without footage there would be no music video. Hence it is important to also provide a section to information the group what to do if there are issues with avoiding the mistake.

Providing this extra column also helped me to prepare for the production as it provoked me to think about aspects of the production which I hadn't considered before. As I had only really been focusing on the actual production itself focusing my efforts on what went into it that I hadn't considered the things which would be needed on set away from the actual filming itself but would still be essential for instance plasters had I not prepared properly for my solutions to risks and someone had fallen and hurt themselves I wouldn't have had any plasters, bandages or any sort of health kit on set. Nor had I even thought about some of the littlest things such as making sure that I had enough bottles of water on set for everyone on the set to make sure that they are hydrated. Also this sounds like the simplest thing I hadn't thought about it simply because it doesn't appear to have an out right effect on my music video. However if crew members find that they are feeling dehydrated this is likely to effect theirs moods as they are likely to become tired and irritable as well as drained from headaches etc. hence it is important to ensure that my crew are feeling fit and well for production. After all if the crew, actors and extras are feeling unwell and demotivated then they are going to be living up to the best that they can be which shall have knocking effects on the music video as it won't be up to standard.

Although some of the elements planned out within the table may appear to be fairly straight forward and basic things which anyone who doesn't necessarily have to have any background knowledge of production would be aware of. However it is still important to address these issues as if myself and my other team members were to write these issues of as fairly small and not being areas of production which we needed to address we may miss out on vital planning which could become helpful to us when filming if these things do occur. As I said before accidents are accidents and cannot be helped it isn't enough for the cast and crew on set to know not to do certain things and behave in certain ways in unfortunately people can't always help certain things such as tripping over wires etc. Henceforth it is important to continue to plan for these problems so that there is a ready made structure for the cast and crew to follow so to help them overcome these issues if they are to arise. For instance we could rule out the idea of people falling over but if we were to do this and not plan for this instant as all simply as we have told people to be careful and not to fall if someone was to still trip then the production team may not know how to respond. There would likely be confusion as there wouldn't be one set way to go about it which would result in conflict as production members argue over what they feel is the right idea and therefore want to be the method adopted via the team. With this planning I can also make sure that the correction equipment is on set so to help my team resolve this issues such as plasters and bandages as well as first aid kits.

Again although this scenario is unlikely it is still possible and therefore should be planned for so to prevent any kind of unnecessary complications forming further down the line into our production. Although with the electrical issues I have both planned and informed team members that people need to be on set guarding wires ensuring that no one spills any water or any other liquids on them. However also this action can be put into place if there is to be a leak for instance on the ceiling which beings to drip onto the wires either in one big gush or little and often which team members may not notice until it is too late as they are being keep so busy with all of their other jobs as well as likely finding themselves distracted via all of the people around them and the actual production itself. Can course issues hence it is important that I have planned to have back ups on set so that if the worst really does happen my team are prepared and the production won't be set back or facing further complications from having good shots which we want to use however not having enough filming to make sense of them and being unable to create the same vibes and atmosphere as was formed on the original day of shooting.

Unfortunately when I arrived to film the party scene I discovered that many of our extras, cast and crew members had already been drinking quite heavily and were fairly intoxicated. Although originally I had planned to arrive to the scene early I had to take another group member who later after planning and setting a date for filming learned that she had family obligations that night which meant that she would have to arrive to filming later on. As we weren't on set when people decided to begin drinking alcoholic substances which we only allowed on set as it was agreed that they would only be opened once the filming was finished we couldn't control what people did. Obtaining two of the higher up positions in the production being two out of three creators of the music video meant that other members of our production team found that they didn't have the same kind of authority as us or felt that it wasn't their job to control the on goings of other people on set. As people were already intoxicated when we arrived this increased the chances of something going wrong by a higher percentage meaning that we had to be extra careful. So we had to keep eyes as firmly on the production members as we were on the actual camera screen in the cases of my group members and my acting in the case of myself as I am portraying the artist. This in itself meant that the quality of our production would lessen disregarding the fact that when people are in this state they are less able to perform well and realistically nor are they as motivated. Hence we had no other choice but to cut the filming for this scene shot as it was becoming dangerous and wasn't coming together as we had hoped.

Although the weather isn't a risk which may be prevented it is an issue which may be planned around. It is best to keep an eye on weather reports so to prevent us from discovering on the day that we won't be able to film due to bad weather conditions. Or even arriving on set filming for a while and then rain begins to pour ruining the effect of the narrative for our music video. As well as being frustrating as it would be hard to get my hair and make up created so to mirror how it was before allowing us to be able to use any good footage capture prior to the rain. Listening to weather reports can indicate which days would be better to film on saving us much time and effort as it prevents us for facing this difficulties/issues. Also as it is hard for us to get everyone together along with all of the equipment needed it would make sense to then film a different scene of which the weather isn't as important for. Because of this I informed my team that if on the day of the 'walk of shame' scene we discover that the weather isn't cooperative then we shall find the 'bedroom scene' instead which means that we are able to keep  on top of our filming schedule which is important as we want to fit all of our filming into the time period we have allowed ourselves so to ensure that by the time it comes to editing we are prepared with different ranges of useable shoots and that we have a good amount of time to spend on these stages as they are most important. Without good and professional appearing editing it may appear that we are making a mockery of our music video or simply that it has gone wrong which provides negative connotations upon the artist. Henceforth turning the audience away from her.

One risk we did encounter when filming was the risk of the weather. Despite both myself and another group member having frequently checked weather reports for the chosen day of filming it still rained which was a weather condition which didn't suit to our music video as it didn't apply benefits to either the narrative or the portrayal of the artist. However luckily despite our frequent pre planning ahead checks I still put places in place just in case the weather wasn't on our side. Meaning that we would be able to get another scene done so that we wasn't wasting valuable time when everyone was free, ready and prepared to film which unfortunately is fairly rare time. Having not filming for this part of the schedule also would have put us back later on in the stages of our production as it would have meant that  we would have to catch up with this filming time later on otherwise we wouldn't have good enough amounts of footage etc.

Another risk we encounter was what resulted in the ruining of our originally planned for 'party scene'. Whereby production members where too drunk for filming hence this meant we wouldn't be able to film as group members were not only not in the right frame of mind for filming but they were also at a risk to themselves.  Meaning that we had to close the production as what was being produced wasn't  effective enough and too many risks were at risk of being breached for us to morally continue with our filming. From filling out my risk assessment I have learnt how seriously the planning stages before creating a music video need to be. For instance I planned for simple things such as people tripping over as this could be viewed as a fault of my production team as people may find themselves tripping over wires etc. which would be a fault of them team had they not put procautions in place to prevent this from happening.

Risk assessments are essential key items to filming a production as issues are likely to rise throughout however if they are planned for although they may not be prevented in all cases they may be worked around and simmered down.

Filming schedule - Miss Georgiou

It is important to create a filming schedule prior to going out and filming for out production as this ensures that we have arranged times which are fair and achievable as well as being well suited to what we want to film at that time. For example if we wanted to film a scene with natural day light going out to film at 9pm wouldn't work. Partaking it the task itself also means that everyone involved in the production has a set schedule to look to as a guide which shall prevent confusion etc.

Whilst planning the filming schedule I was keen to ensure that we was creating a schedule which was appropriate by being suitable for all and realistic in terms of what we wanted to film. As I achieved this it meant that we were able to stick to our filming schedule as nothing needed to be changed. I was aware that we would face issues with filming outside due to unpredictable weather conditions so I kept an eye on the weather reports both when creating the filming schedule and once it had been created so to make sure that we didn't arrive on set and then discover half way through filming that the weather wouldn't be as planned. In order to maintain a tight well fit to schedule I made sure that I spoke to everyone involved in the production so that I was able to create a schedule which would allow me to fit everyone in at the indicated times.

The hardest scene to plan regarding getting everyone involved within the production at the same location at the same time was the 'house party' scene as this meant not only finding a location which would fit everyone and we would be able to obtain permission to allow everyone in but it also meant trying to arrange a time when absolutely everyone was free which wasn't easy.  During the early stages of the schedule before dates were finalised I had to change the day of filming this scene as unfortunately things came up in peoples personal lives which couldn't be avoided. However as it was unlikely as it would appear for me to manage to find a date and time when everyone involved would be free I had to persuade individuals to change dates and free themselves up. For instance one of the girls actually on the production team had to come from work complete the filming and then leave again to go back. Although this wasn't ideal as it meant that we really had to rush to make sure that we got enough footage that we had extra footage when it came to the editing stage this was the best of a bad situation. It was especially hard to convince the extras to attend filming as we couldn't provide them with any real incentives to persuade them with other than the fact that they would be gaining further experience from shooting with us. What made it even harder was that as we selected a large group of extras from school if a couple of people from one group couldn't film on certain day we were considering then we would find other people from outside of school to be in our production and then existing extras would inform us that they weren't interested in filming without the people we had made up for prolonging the entire process.

For the scenes which we filmed in the cafe we had to be really careful when planning on the times we would arrive and film as we had to ensure that the cafe would be open when we planned to film. But we also had to predict whether or not the cafe would be too busy for us to film as if there were too many people in there then it may have been too cramped for us to get the filming done properly. Also it may have been too noisy as the team wouldn't be able to communicate with each other properly or concentrate. More people being on set which weren't involved within the production would also have meant that our filming would be at further risk of being tarnished by people finding it funny to be seen on camera doing stupid things for instance waving at the camera which wouldn't make sense to the narrative, could appear either comical or stupid, ruining the overall effect of the narrative and taking the audience away from the experience the artist is creating with their music video therefore preventing the music video from performing it's job. Obviously we couldn't allow such senses to make the final cut when in the editing stages however this would mean that our final footage would be limited.

Unfortunately as it was raining for the day we played to film the 'Walk of shame' scene despite both myself and Jess (another member of my group) having looked up the weather forecasts for the day on several occasions the weather wasn't in our favour. As it rained despite it having been predicted for days and even that very day that the weather would be dry. Luckily I had put plan in place for this instance despite the weather considering us otherwise that this wouldn't be needed. I planned for the group to meet at my house so that if there were weather issues we would still be able to get filming done as we filmed the bedroom scene whereby the artist is seen performing in bed and pacing/dancing around her bedroom. This was a tactile plan as it meant that know time was being wasted and we wouldn't have furthered work to do later. Apart from this the filming schedule ran to plan and was most helpful in ensuring that both myself and my group members were well aware of what was expected of them as of when. However we did apply an additional as we decided that we wanted to refill our 'party scene' as we weren't happy with how the footage came out and didn't feel that it complied well with the portrayal we were sorting out with the music video. Which meant that not only would we be refilling said scene but I also decided that it would be better to make changes so to make sure that the same kinds mistakes and elements which didn't appear as effective the first time would appear again. So to accomplish this I opted to change the location of the scene to the drama studio in school which meant that I had to inform everyone of this new location and perform a phew separate risk assessment simply for this new location as other I may have encountered various different issues both ethical and work related throughout the production. I also wished to add additional scenes throughout the music video for instance we shot from didn't angles etc. which we hadn't originally planned for. Such as angles were I was seen performing against the brick wall. This is simply  a nature part of filming though and doesn't connote anything negative towards our filming  schedule as when on set it is likely that group members are going to find inspiration for new ideas this often happens because they feel inspired in the moment hence this means a few changes shall be made in order to do so however this doesn't create problems as within a good filming schedule performed by a good performance team this extra changes should be planned for.

Through creating the filming schedule I developed further skills, one of which being that I certainly become more confident in taking charge and not worrying too much about upsetting or making things and little bit more difficult for group members. Throughout filming it is hard to plan to film on days which are good for every single group member. However I was on a tight schedule, I needed to get my filming done asap so that I allowed myself enough time to move onto the editing stages and feel as that I had enough time to really challenge myself with my editing skills/techniques. Due to this there were times when I had to run filming even though people stated that it wasn't a suitable day for them. I enforced this by simply reminding them in forceful ways that when in the stages of filming you must prioritise and if your considering that spending your time elsewhere would be more beneficial or appealing to you then perhaps signing on to create a music video wasn't the best choice for them.

planning digipak - Miss Miller

A digipak refers to the packaging style for an album which differs to the typical jewel CD case. Digipaks are often more personal compared to jewel cases as it appears that artists tend to add more personal information to them, for instance via adding personal notes to fans such as thank you notes, providing them with added extras such as posters or chances to win tickets to up coming concerts or simply adding more personal photos.  Hence this helps to promote the artist as being someone who is a good role model, as they appear to care both about their fans as they are taking the time to provide them with this extra information and personal notes so to help the audience feel closer towards them building upon the relationship between the artist and the audience and portraying that the artist really does care about their music and that they aren't simply producing music as a money making scheme but because they feel that have a genuine talent and really care about music and their work. This helps to convey the artist as a positive role model as it creatives  this image around  them of obtaining good morals and wanting to do right by their fans. Henceforth urging the audience to allow a relationship between themselves and the artist as they feel that the artist is a good person and therefore someone they can look up to as even with their talent and believed good wealth they do not allow these aspects to ruin them  at their core. The artist is also able to really focus on the relationship with their target audience so in the case of my artist being of the soul genre her target audience would be members of the soul genre audience. As they can highlight aspects which follow codes and conventions towards the genre within their work therefore as they have a larger amount of space to fill which the artist is likely to look at. In the case of a jewel pack although many albums come with a little book full of images and side notes from the artist the audience tend not to look at this especially when they are browsing for albums to buy, however as with a jewel pack it appears to be a lot less aggravation for the audience to read and it usually catches their attention they have a look. It is essential for the artist to provide codes and conventions towards their chosen genre on their digipak so to attract their chosen audience and therefore gain the success they are aiming towards. Hence as a digipak is able to provide the artist with further opportunity to capture a more personal relationship I shall be opting to use a digipak for  my album rather than a jewel CD case. The reason I desire this extra bond with my chosen audience is that if the audience feel as though they are more easily able to relate to the artist they are more likely to like them as a personal and enjoy their music as they view reflections of themselves within them. Hence throughout my digipak I plan to apply to the codes and conventions of the soul genre.

As digipaks are so important as they are so beneficial I decided to put much planning into my digipak before I had even began taking shots for the digipak. If I was to make mistakes with my digipak then the digipak wouldn't have all of it's benefits as I wouldn't be following the necessary structure so to that I was creating a successful digipak. For example without codes and conventions suiting my chosen genre, audience members wouldn't know that this is an album which is suited to them and they should therefore be interested in, meaning that they would likely completely miss it.

Here is my original rough plan for my digipak:

Throughout the images displayed on my digipak I have produced codes and conventions towards the soul genre. Which was an essential task when creating my digipak as without these codes and conventions it would be hard for the audience to tell without prior knowledge that the artist belongs to their chosen genre. Even with this select knowledge it may still be hard for the audience to tell as many artists are known for changing their genre of music as they grow as an artist. For instance artist Rihanna has been widely recognised for her transformations in the world of music throughout her career. One of the codes and conventions which I displayed throughout my digipak would be
the iconography of the microphone and the microphone stand which are conventional elements as these are things which you would expect to see paired with an artist of the soul genre because artists of said genre are recognised for performing live on stage in places such as jazz bars which is the chosen location for said scene also be conventional. The importance of the microphone on it's stand represents that the artist is talented enough to sing live without auto tune or anything of the sort. It also demonstrates how the artist doesn't need to put on a big showy performance, performing various dance routines etc. as she wouldn't be able to with the microphone in it's stand which is beneficial as it means that the artist is talented enough to put on a big performance without needing to apply any of these elements.

I also opted to follow codes and conventions to the soul genre when considering aspects of Mise en scene regarding the artist representation. For instance I have decided to go for the typical make up expected for a woman in the 1950s/1960s which involves fairly basic base make up, rouge lips and cheeks with more emphases on the eyes. I shall opt to be doing this so to really highlight the artist as being a member of the soul genre as this is the conventional make up style expected from artists from the soul genre as is adopted via soul artists such as Duffy. This is because this is the time in which the soul genre was officially structured and created of which it has rarely developed as the audience are fans of the genres classical vibes hence keeping these elements in within my music video is a conventional element to the genre which I know the audience shall enjoy. This is also important as if I was to promote aspects of the soul genre which weren't as well adored they may not have the same effect possibly even facing audience members missing out of the aspect of these elements being conventional as they aren't so well loved and therefore not seen or recognised as much. I also plan to adopt this style for the artists hair and costume. For instance in these images the artist shall be seen with hair which is fairly bigger to what you would expect to see today as it is fitting to the styles adopted by women from the time period. A good example of a conventional costume the artist shall be wearing for the digipak shall be the dress which I as the artist shall also wear in the performance scenes which take place in the jazz cafe. This costume is conventional for much of it's detail for instance the colour of the dress itself is conventional as it is black which is a stereotypical colour to see women wearing from the time period as well as red as these are thought to be rather classic colours. The dress is also slightly suggestive as it comes of off the shoulders revealing the upper area of the artists chest however she is still fairly covered. Also the dress is quite long, this is all important as what would be seen as suggestive today would have been seen as completely shocking within this time period. For instance the types of costumes which are often worn within the industry by artists such as , Britney Spears and Katy Perry which are seen as acceptable in today's society would be seen as completely inappropriate and highly socially unacceptable during this time period. Which is something I need to remember throughout the stages of my production as well as any issues alike as this can prevent how well my work comes across as conventional to my chosen audience. Making these simple mistakes can ruin the entire effect which I am creating for the digipak therefore stopping my design for the digipak from being effective in attracting members of the soul genre audience. Hence I shall be demonstrating codes and conventions so to represent the artist throughout so to ensure that I am attracting the right audience in the most beneficial way.

Another way in which I wanted to demonstrate codes and conventions towards the soul genre throughout my digipak was through the use of relate-able locations. Relate-able locations are conventional towards the genre of soul as they remind the audience of the factors of the artist of which they can relate to as well as presenting the artist as someone who endures a normal life and takes them away from the confines of their fame which prevents the audience from viewing them as an actual human being rather than a star or even a product following Dyers theory. Hence as I want the audience to be able to feel as though the artist is someone who they could see themselves getting along well with and finding to be relate-able I wanted to portray her in these kinds of locations so to enforce this and help the audience to view the artist in this manner.  For instance I added an image of the artist in her bedroom which is a relate-able location as it is a scene which most people are frequently use to seeing or being even in most cases pretty much everyday. As well as the connotations of a bedroom themselves, as a bedroom is thought to be a rather private and therefore personal place where people behave as their true selves, hence this allows the audience to feel as though they are being provided with a glimpse of the audience in her own personal space. Which suggests that the artist is reaching out towards her audience along with the style of typography which urges the audience to feel a better connection with the artist as she appears to be a good role model who really cares about pleasing her audience as well as getting to know them and helping them. This is also beneficial as it represents the artist to be someone who has a genuine passion  for her music rather than just being an artist who enters the industry as a way of making money and achieving fame. This is an aspect to the artists representation which helps the audience to warm towards her as she appears to be a much more positive role model who is creating music which she really puts thought and effort into. When tying these concepts with the artists codes and conventions towards the soul genre members of said audience are likely to be really appealed as it appears that the artist has put much time and effort into the lyrics which the audience will find relate-able as her persona demonstrates that she adopts a soul genre way to life and shares interests with those other members of the audience. The concept of the artist puting more care into her music is also conventional as artists belonging to the soul genre are thought to care much more about their content and attempt to make their a better experience for their audience in the way that artists from the indie genre would contrasting that of artists from the pop genre as they focus more on the connection and content than simply working as background music to promote both a good time and the artist themselves. Thus I shall be demonstrating relate-able locations throughout my digipak so that the audience feel as though they would be able to connect with the artist which in turn makes the audience grow more towards the artist building upon the relationship between the two which sees that the audience want the artist to do well. Meaning that they shall purchase the artists music in a bid for them to achieve so.

I plan to use both close ups and long shots of the artist throughout my digipak. I like the concept of providing the two contrasting shots together as it creates the idea for the artist that they have a better knowledge and therefore understanding of the artist as they have seen them from such different angles etc. For the close ups of the artist I plan for the audiences attention to be really focused towards the artists make up the effect of this shall both help the audience to put the artist towards the soul genre as well as helping them to find the artist more attractive and therefore building a stronger relationship with her. Following Goodwin's theory as males find themselves finding the artist more physically attractive meaning that they find themselves developing a different sort of relationship with the artist therefore embarking upon any other forms of relationships they may face with the artist encouraging them to feel more deeply towards the artist which is being beneficial as this means that they are more likely to purchase the digipak. For female audience members this is likely to urge them to find the artist more respectable as she is presented to be so so talented, thought provoking and yet she still takes care of her appearance. Hence viewing the artist to be father successful as she is able to juggle managing all of these different things and still doing them all so well. Due to which the female members are likely to look up to the artist more and view her as more of a role model which builds upon the relationship between the audience and the artist meaning that the audience are more likely to purchase the artists digipak. I plan to use long shots for scenes where I want to show of the location for instance on location for the 'walk of shame' scene  I plan to break away from the shooting for a moment of time and have a photo shoot where I as the artist shall pose for photos for the digipak which represent the artist as being conventional to the genre, due to her appearance and location, as well as allowing the audience to feel as though the artist is providing them with more of herself as they are able to view her in such a variety of different ways. Which is a beneficial factor impacting as it means that the audience feel as though they have more of a relationship with the artist. A long shot also represents the concept of the artist being fairly shy and liking to keep themselves to themselves which is conventional within the genre as often soul artists are thought to be quite stand offish as they think more deeply about things compared to other artists meaning that they find it harder to connect with others as they cannot see past certain things or forget them. Hence this representation of the artist follows codes and conventions of the soul genre as it provides the audience with a stereotypical representation of the artist which may urge them to see more of themselves within the artist therefore building upon the relationship between the audience and the artist making the audience more likely to purchase the artists digipak. Whereas a close up represents the idea that the artist is attempting to become closer with their audience as their face is physically closer to the lense. This also portrays the concept that the artist is allowing the audience to obtain a true representation of themselves as they are so close to the camera it suggests themes of the artist promoting herself as herself. This comes from the fact that it is thought to be harder to hard the closer up you are to a microscope etc as your flaws etc. are going to be highlighted. This helps the audience grow towards the artist as it appears that she is attempting to reach out to them hence I plan to use these elements within my digipak so to capture the sense that the audience are being provided with a better insight into the artist than they would be able through other outlets when buying the digipak. Which is important as the sole purpose of a digipak compared with other forms of holding an album such as a jewel CD case is that digipaks are much more personal and allow the audience to know more about the artist. Using these kinds of shots suggests that the digipak shall allow the audience this further insight as they are seeing different photos of the artist in a variety of different places, performing different tasks which represents the concept that the digipak forms knowledge for the different sides of the artist hence not only selling the artist and their music but also the concept of the digipak itself.

I plan to keep the design and layout for the digipak fairly simple as this represents that the music itself is of such a good quality that the artist doesn't need to promote herself with fancy layout techniques or images as the music is able to speak for itself. Which is also conventional towards the genre of soul as often the idea of keeping things simple aids for an element of class which is reminiscent of that which was available during the period the genre was formed. Due to it's conventional themes this style of layout has also been used by other artists for their digpaks for instance soul artist Duffy applies a rather simplistic layout for her digipak. A good example of how I plan to capture this theme within my digipak will be for the side of my digipak where the songs from the album are listed. I wish to keep this simple as this really enforces the idea of the music speaking for itself which shall in turn highlight that to the artist the most important to her digipak is her music not promoting herself. Therefore suggesting to the audience that the album is of a good standard as the artist has evidently put a lot of work into it. I plan to create this kind of simplistic layout but using images which don't appear overly edited thus appearing more simple which provides these kinds of connotations, I also plan to achieve it by sticking to the images used without adding other images on top as again this would take away from the simplicity of it, this will also mean staying away from any overly bright or neon colours I also want to keep any text fairly short as a lot of writing can appear like a lot of unnecessary effort for the audience therefore applying connotations upon the digipak which suggests that it requires more effort on the part of the audience again taking away from the simplicity. It is important to keep to this theme throughout the slides on my digipak so to prevent confusion on the part of the audience and so to not ruin the effect.

Within my digipak I shall include on one of my slides a thank you note from the artist to her audience. I plan to do so because it will provide various beneficial features attracting the audience and therefore generating a larger profit as more consumers purchase it. Including the fact that this shall enable the artist to represent herself to the audience as being someone who really cares for her fans and is therefore portrayed as a positive role model. This works as the audience see this as being a trait of a nice person as often it is thought that once stars become successful they become deluded of themselves and their own success and start to forget that it is the help of others which made them so successful. Henceforth seeing artists who appear to be so grateful and considerate of those who helped them achieve their success paints them as being a nicer person and. Thus this urges the audience to grow more towards the artist as this applies further to their like-ability factor because the concept of the artist caring about their fans and being thankful for them suggests that they are a nice person which is important as the audience wouldn't find themselves wanting to buy the digipak of an artist who wasn't someone they particularity liked as this is likely to put them off. Working within the same manner as when a film is created staring an actor who some audience members find they don't like as they aren't going to want to be watching them. Reading the thank you note shall also make the audience feel more appreciated which is important as it means that they are more likely to purchase the artists album. This happens as with the sense of being appreciated fans begin to feel a closer bond between themselves and the artist as the artists words appear to be directed right at them hence making for a more personal experience. This intensifies the relationship between the artist and the audience as they feel as though the artist is fully aware of how the audience are able to better them as an artist and appreciates it. This is also essential as it indicates to the audience that the artist really does create their music for them which reminds the audience of the artists dedication both to them and the genre also encouraging the audience to feel closer to the artist. The thought of being appreciated is something which the audience enjoys and therefore resulting in them becoming what they feel to be even more supportive which means that the audience shall be purchasing the artists music. This is one of the most important reasons as to why I shall be adding a thank you note as not only does it encourage the audience to buy this digipak but it also encourages the audience to stick by the artist, purchasing other forms of their music as well as any music later to come throughout their career. Benefiting the artist as they have a larger sales revenue and therefore a larger profit. The concept of the artist actually writing a thank you note paints the artist as being a better person/role model as it shows how much they care about their work and makes them appear to be nice as they take the time to think about others. These are elements which the audience like to view in the artist as often the stereotypical view of an artist who isn't a nice person is someone whom doesn't particularly care about their audience or even their audiences experience of their music video, they are someone who doesn't appear to care about those who look up to them or credit their music as they feel that they are so good that people should just be expected to behave as so and they are often thought to apply a total disregard for the actual audience. It is most beneficial for the artist to add a thank you note not only as this improves upon the relationship between the artist and the audience but also because it creates a more positive representation of the artist for the audience to embark upon hence I shall be providing one. It also improves upon the audiences view of the digipak as a product alone from the CD after all the audience could opt to simply download the album on iTunes thus the digipak needs to really stand out as for-filling it's duty of providing the audience with a more personal package and further information of the artist than if they were to buy the album through other outlets. Adding a thank you note it able to enhance the impacts of a digipak allowing the audience into a deeper insight of the audience as they feel as though they now have a letter written and addressed directly to them from the artist.

Another benefit which can come from creating a thank you note for a digipak is that this can provide psychological impacts. As the audience read the note and due to it's direct address to the reader and lack of personal details the audience feel as though it is really aimed at them. This can allow audience members to feel that upon purchasing the digipak they become a part of what the artist views as their fandom. Which the audience enjoys as they like the impacts of feeling as though they belong to something. As a result of this the audience feel it's part of their duty to continue supporting the artist which they want to do as the artist has made them feel appreciated. This is another reason why I have opted to include a thank you note as it certainly strengthens the bond between the artist and the audience which is both conventional and essential for sales as this ensures that the artist has an audience to want to contribute to the artists success and are therefore more likely to purchase their music throughout their career as they continue their support. This shall be achieved by phrasing which shall be included within the thank you note such as; "I want to take this chance to thank you for your constant support" as not only does this appear as though the artist has wanted to announce their appreciation for the audience for a while conveying how truly appreciative they are of them but it also continues the theme of psychological benefits. Because the audience are being told that their constant support is what strives the artist the audience find that they not only want to contribute to this but they want to provide the artist with constant support. As they find themselves wanting to be considered apart of the artists fanbase. The thank you note shall also mention; "I have always aimed to please you and create music which may help you through the difficulties you face" This helps to convey the artist as belonging to the soul genre as the genre is known for it's artists singing about their personal issues and trying to create a relationship with their audience so to better their experience of their music as well as the genre being known for being an outlet for people to connect with their emotions and the music. This also embarks upon the conventional theme of the genre being relate-able as this suggests that as the artist sings about topics which can surface hardship the audience may suffer these appear to be issues which the artist herself has gone through. Thus this helps not only to provide codes and conventions towards the genre and encourages the audience to purchase the digipak as the artist appears to be someone they could get along with but the thank you note is also able to exploit these codes and conventions and make them work in to the artists advantage.

For the typography for my digipak I opted to creature a style which shall almost appear as though it has been written by hand once I have finished it on photoshop. I decided to do this as this helps the audience to feel as though the artist is trying to reach out to them further as they are applying there own writing which suggests that they have put more time and effort into their digipak than they necessarily had to. As they easily could have left the design and layout of their digipak to their design team. The concept of it appearing as though the artist has hand written onto their digipak pack works as they appealing their signature to something it suggests that they've applied their own stamp onto it which concludes that the artist is proud of their work and wants the audience to experience it as they feel that they are able to gain something from it and enjoy the music the artist has created for them. Hence urging the audience to purchase the digipak as it is connoted throughout the images for instance the iconography of the microphone and the microphone-stand that the artist is someone who obtains a strong knowledge on music therefore the concept that she is proud to present this digipak as her own suggests that the music is of a strong quality and standard encouraging the audience to purchase it so to allow themselves to visit this musical experience the artist has captured.

Following codes and conventions within the soul genre I plan to use typography which appears almost to have been hand written be cause this is conventional towards the genre of soul for a number of reasons one of which being the concept it creates a more personal vibe around the digipak as this  connotes that the artist has put  a lot of time and effort into their digipak as this is the kinds of connotations which come from someone physically hand witting something such as an invitation as well a highlighting how personal it is to them which represents the concept that their music is  personal to them. Which is also conventional as typically soul artists sing about matters which are personal to them as they are recognised for singing about more personal topics compared with other artists belonging to genres such as Pop, Hip-Hop and dance. The style of typography also represents how the artist is baring themselves within their music so to help them engage with their audience and create a relationship with them. This works as the concept of the artist using their own hand writing suggests that they really are making the digipak as personal as they possibly can as the concept of using their own hand writing concludes that they are putting themselves into their music. Thus this represents how the artist is putting more of herself into her music video which other artists aren't providing again following codes and conventions of the genre as soul artists are known for creating more personal music than other artists which is often interpreted as being deeper. This is an important aspect to promote to the audience as this is conventional towards the soul genre as artists are known for being more personal. Both ensuring the audience are aware of the artists genre as well as providing them with aspects they are prone to find pleasing within the genre therefore providing them with a better experience from the artist. The language used throughout the digipak shall be rather formal. I have chosen to keep to a formal tone of language as it is the conventional tone the audience shall be expecting, because the genre has remained the same since it's birth in the 50s/60s the genre still has this kind of old world feel to it. Thus artists of the soul genre often speak within this manner hence it shall therefore be used within witting which is representative of both artists and of the genre. Hence further employing the artist towards the genre and appealing to the audience as it is the various different codes and conventions towards the genre which they find appealing and attractive them towards it. Regardless of how small or insignificant a code or convention towards the genre may seem even the smallest of conventions when they are all added up and put together can largely impact upon the audiences understanding of the artist as well as how attracted they are to the artists music.

For the more important pieces of text such as the artists name and the album name I shall use larger font. This shall help inform the audience that these are the more important pieces of information. As throughout the media the audience have been taught this throughout the media. Think of the connotations which are associated with someones name 'being in bold' this indicates that they are someone important thus providing the same effects. This also ensures that these are the pieces of information which catches the audiences eye first. Being that these pieces of information shall be he artists name and the albums title this is important as this shall spark interest in the audience due to the various connotations on the front of the digipak as well as the artist representation throughout the media of the artist being someone who is important and obtains success as well as the tittle being in larger font indicating that this is a good album which she is proud to represent as her own due to which they will be more likely to purchase the artists album.

When planning a digipak it is essential that you are careful and aware of how different elements may portray the artist or their music in a different way. For instance it was important for me to note the difference between the dress styles which are acceptable now and what would have been acceptable in the period the genre was created as if the artist was to wore something which would have seemed to have been shocking for the period then this would have taken away from the effect I was trying to create fitting the artists representation through various different elements of Mise en scene to the genre of soul as it wouldn't have suited which would have likely confused the audience and prevented them from viewing the artist in this way.

Storyboards - Miss Georgiou

Prior to going out and filming our music video we needed to storyboard our music video as you would a film so to ensure that everyone was on the same page with plans. This meant that the team had talked through everything that needed to happen so to ensure that when we arrive on location everything shall run smoothly. As everyone will be aware of their allocated jobs, the actual run through of the video itself and will be well prepared meaning that any props anyone needs to remember isn't forgotten. Planning our music video out first of all in the form of a storyboard meant that we wasn't able to forget any section of planning before filming. Because in the format of a storyboard you have to include every basic element that any music video or film requires such as the use of lighting or any uses of iconography. Meaning that the music video has been planned properly and so long as the storyboard is followed properly the production should go to plan.

Here is an image of some of the frame numbers which filled up my storyboard. As you can see at the very top of the storyboard we numbered the storyboard page numbers, belong that we kept track of how long each frame number would be as well as the numbers of each individual frame number. Belong was were we planned to place an image so to be representative of how we wanted the scene to look this was also beneficial as it enabled us to visualize how the scene would come out more clearly. This also enabled us to make sure that we were all visualizing matching ideas so to prevent their being any confusion when we arrived on set. The role of the drawing was located to Emma as she is studying A level art hence she would be the best as she is the most able with drawing which is important as we want clear images which you can easily work out without any confusion both when planning the production during a meeting and when we are actually on set filming and only want to have to check the storyboards quickly so that we can confirm we are doing things correctly to plan and help us to remember any everything. Belong the drawings was the section we dedicated to writing out the main information for our storyboards.

Although it appears that there is quite a lot of information in these boxes there is actual a rather limited amount compared to all of the planning we have been doing throughout the process of planning out production. We done this as it was important to keep our storyboards straight forward and easy to read as they are an important document which we should be able to refer to easily without feeling as though we are having to hunt for vital pieces of information. Such as the shot type, lighting and a brief narrative description. Any other pieces of information about the narrative would have been on other planning sheets so to avoid confusion.

As I planned the storyboard I used pieces of information I had gathered from both my primary and secondary research so to ensure that I was creating a music video which would appeal to my chosen audience. This is what helped inspire me to create the 'jazz bar' scene as it is able to provide two elements which I know the audience like from my research the concept of the artist performing as well as being a clear location for the audience to pick up on codes and conventions of the soul genre as the actual place itself is a conventional towards the genre as you would expect to see soul artist performing in a jazz bar as the two genres are thought to be so closely combined. Also soul artists are known for performing on in such an element as they are thought to have a pure talent which they are able to rely on alone rather than just a big back drop and tones of extras as their voice is thought to be entertaining enough. Hence this location is conventional as it shows the artist on a fairly simple stage where the sole focus is put on the artist themselves. I gained this information when taking out my questionnaire as I asked par takers what they liked and expected to see within music videos belonging to the soul genre. My primary research allowed me to focus on elements of the genre which I had picked up myself, for instance the Mise en scene used by female artists of the soul genre including their style of make up including artists such as my chosen artist Amy Winehouse, Adele and Duffy. This is beneficial as it enables me to make sure that I am following codes and conventions towards the soul genre which is important as it helps the audience to understand which genre the music video belongs to as well as attracting those members of the soul genre. This works as they pick up on the artists use of codes and conventions towards the genre which proves to them that the artist has a good enough understanding of the genre to class themselves to it as well as highlighting that their admiration for the genre goes deeper than simply the style that they are able to sing within. Hence gaining the audience respect meaning that they are more likely to purchase the artists music.
I issued this into the storyboard by deciding what frames we wanted the artists make up to be highlighted within. Which resulted in various uses of close  ups and mid shots as they are good shots to show the artists face/facial expressions as well as to aid in telling the narrative behind the music video. For instance in the performance scene which takes place at the jazz bar I decided that it would be a good idea to really draw the audiences attention to the artists make up as although the artists make up would conform to the soul genre throughout the music video it shall do more so in these scenes. As the artist shall be in an environment which conforms to the genre more in itself and really applies the feeling of taking the audience back to the 1950s/1960s the period of which the genre was created of which it hasn't developed much from hence being a conventional feeling to take the audience back as it is these classical vibes which the audience adore and recognise with the genre. Hence being in this environment is the perfect opportunity to really fit the artists make up and costume to the genre even more so. Within other locations/scenes such as the 'house party' scene empathising this style of make up as much as we plan to for the jazz scene may look strange as the audience shall be comparing the artist to the other girls at the party as well as girls they've seen at house parties themselves demonstrating how subversive her style is which may then make it look more weird or comical rather than working as an effect convention of the soul genre.

A lot of my primary research as well as watching music videos from artists of the soul genre came from looking at images which suited the typical representation of women of this period as well as watching the television series 'Mad Men' so to help me gain a better understanding of the ways and behavioral patterns of women throughout said periods. Which was beneficial as it helped me to understand why women may have portrayed themselves in certain ways as well as why they would still be portrayed within this manner via fans of the soul genre today. This also helped me to gain a better understanding of the period as a whole which was good as it meant that I was more easily able to notice characteristics of the time period which may still be of use and appreciated within the soul genre today. As our music video also takes a more of a modern spin on the element of the soul genre as seen in the house party scene I looked to other artists music videos which would be able to help me gain inspiration for representing themes of being young and partying with friends. So to help make the experience appear more believable and therefore making the narrative more relateable for audience members helping them to feel closer to the artist as though they have built a greater relationship. This is a good method artists use so to obtain the interest of the audience and get them purchasing their music. For instance a good example of a music video I looked to for inspiration for this select scene was Selena Gomez's music video for 'Birthday' as the entire music video is set at a house party. This particular music video helped me to picture how I could film at what should appear to be a house party location, how I would make it believable, the sorts of things I could have actors doing for instance performing what appears to be more causal dance routines so not to ruin the effect which comes from the concept of the party goers being lost in the party and enjoying themselves yet the artist is still able to provide her audience with different forms of fun dance routines to watch and maybe even try out. I also took inspiration from the music videos lighting as it demonstrating how low key lighting can be used so to create the effect of being at a typical house party as this is the style of lighting you would expect to see but also how filler lights and spot lights can be used to ensure that the audience still have a clear project of what is happening from a good standard of quality. If the quality of the lighting was to be too dull and blurry then the audience would likely think the music video appeared to be unprofessional hence ruining the effect of it straight away before the audience even really get a chance to enjoy it properly.

Examples from Selena Gomez's music video 'Birthday':

Although Emma was located the job of doing the drawings we all took part in the creation of our storyboard.  We talked through our plans for the music video first of all. Referring back to previous planning sheets and our annotated lyrics. This was essential as it
meant that we were all on a clear indication of how everyone wanted the music video to run making sure that no one was confused when we went on to put all of the different frames together. Once we felt as though everyone had a solid understanding of the narrative we began filling out our allocated scenes after which we all came together, pieced the storyboard together and checked that the storyboard all fit together, made sense and that there were no pieces missing etc. This was a good technique to use as it meant that everyone was involved hence everyone felt that there job was important ensuring that they done it to the best of their ability as well as helping everyone to remember certain parts of the storyboard more clearly than others as they were their allocated parts. This is also beneficial as it means that if there is any confusion with particular scenes later down the line that that team member should be able to take charge and clear all of the confusion up.

Generally we shall be closely sticking to the storyboard as well we be using all of the scenes and locations mentioned. As well as all of the pieces of iconography etc. However unfortunately as we are using actors within our music video we cannot guarantee their reliability or corporation. So unfortunately is someone acting within our music video for instance Jack Taylor is to fall ill or decide that they don't want to do certain things within our music video then we cannot force them. This is made harder as we are not an actual music company we cannot offer them the incentive of money to encourage them to work harder and become more committed to the production. Also as we don't have this added factor to encourage our actors we cannot determine the extras corporation at the house party scene meaning that we may have to change a few elements once we are filming.

Planning magazine advert - Miss Miller

Magazine adverts are essential when promoting the release of a new album as it allows the artist to receive a further awareness from the public as they are being thrust upon them in places where they may not be looking for them. For instance if an artists new album was only to be advertised in places where the audience would be expected in such as on iTunes, YouTube or on a music channel then then the audience would likely be expecting it and therefore wouldn't pay much attention to it as they would simply see it as 'someone trying to sell them something'. However when reading a magazine the audience isn't expecting much in particular as they are use to reading through the magazine and reading whatever grabs your attention hence they are more likely to read over the magazine advert as they are looking for things to read about. Plus the concept of the album advert being placed in a magazine suggests that the album is relevant as this is an outlet which man people use so to discover information about whats important or new and relevant for instance picking up on new trends and discovering new artists. Often readers of magazines stick to certain magazines as they like what that magazine represents and the way in which they publish their news hence the fact that the artist has chosen to promote their album in said magazine and the fact that the magazine has opted to allow them to buy a spot in their magazine allows the reader to feel as though they are more able to relate to the artist as it appears they have common ground and the added acceptance of the magazine suggests that this is a good artist who should be on the route to success. Hence the artist becomes more appealing to the audience as they want to jump on the hype before everyone else.

Thus as magazine adverts for artists album releases obtain such importance I decided to put a great deal of time to plan out the design and layout for the advert:

I planned to apply many codes and conventions towards the soul genre throughout my advert so to attractive audience members of the soul genre making sure that they were aware that the album was of the soul genre. As there aren't that many new soul artists around members of the soul audience aren't likely to be taking note of new and upcoming artists so to see if they would like their music. Hence it was important for me to really clarify that the album belongs so the soul genre so the encourage them to purchase the album. I did this by applying a colour scheme which suits the soul genre; black, white and red these colours are conventional as they are rather classic colours hence dating back to the period when the genre was created (1950s- 1960s) of which it has changes or adaptions have rarely occurred thus it is conventional to apply such a colour scheme. The colours are also representative of what the soul genre is often thought to be about. As the soul genre is known for being a rather relateable genre in which the artists stick to singing about topics which are personal to them and are kept away from their fame and fortune so that the audience is able to relate hence black and white being colours which represent dark themes suggesting that the artist is going deeper with their lyrics adding in their personal struggles and troubles. Red having connotations of love, a topic which is often referred to throughout the soul genre as it is both personal to the artist as well as universally relateable as the idea of love is said to be able to effective everyone.
I also applied the Mise en scene elements of hair and make up which demonstrate to the audience codes and conventions of the soul genre as these elements fit the ways in which you would expect a female artist of the soul genre to present herself as it is stereotypical of the image of women in the 1950s/1960s. I planned for this by providing the artist with fairly plain make up, not using much for her base but highlighting her cheekbones and focusing mainly on her lips and eyes which was often done throughout the period. I used winged eyeliner to bring attention to her eyes a conventional element dating back to the genres beginning which has been used via many soul artists including some of the bigger female soul artists such as my chosen artist Amy Winehouse herself, Adele and Duffy.
I also plan to use typography which is conventional towards the soul genre as it almost as appears as though it has been hand written a technique which has been used via various different soul artists such as Duffy. This is conventional as it helps the audience to feel as though they are more easily able to relate to the artist as they appear to be reaching out to their audience, attempting to build a connection with them as they have taken the time and effort to write this themselves by hand rather than just allowing the editors of their cover to do it for her.

At the bottom left hand corner of my magazine album advert I added a review from a magazine. I have purposefully selected to use NME magazine as it is a well known music magazine therefore receiving a strong positive review from them suggests to the audience that this really is a good album which they should buy as this magazine is known for it's good understanding of the music industry and its relevant/worthwhile reviews. Adding reviews almost highlights to the audience that the artist has already received success on some level as magazines such as NME wouldn't be bothering to write reviews on them or even rate them if they weren't relevant on some level. Hence this intrigues the audience in the artist further as they are being glamourised therefore the audience feel as though they would be gaining more from their experience with the artist. It also suggests that the artist is someone whom people are talking about and paying interest to as they are receiving such coverage. Urging the audience to want to buy the artists album so to stop them from feeling left out  of the hype or as though they are behind on the times.

Like many artist of the soul genre have through their work I decided to keep my advert fairly simple. I done this in an attempt to prove to the audience that my artist doesn't need to sell herself by adding fancy elements to her work but by simply allowing her music to do the talking for her. This is also conventional as soul artists are recognised for keeping their work fairly plain and simple so to allow their talent to shine through. For instance unlike other artists such as artists from the genre of pop soul artists are known for performing on a fairly naked stage especially female artists who often perform with dancers, a backing track or an attention grabbing back drop. This empahsises how talented the artist really is and allows the audience to aim their focus upon the artist and the album rather than being distracted by various images etc. filling the advert preventing it from doing it's job of promoting the artist and the album. It is also beneficial to advertise the artists album within this manner as because it is conventional this means that it is evidently going to be a style to the advert which members of the soul audience like. Which is important as this means that the artist knows she has created an advert which should be successful as it is aiming its efforts towards their specific audience.

The purpose of showcasing most of the artists figure as well as a close up of her eye is that it provides the audience with two contrasting ideas which are both conventional towards the soul genre and therefore are beneficial for the artist when attempting to attack their chosen audience as they are following the codes and conventions of the genre. Which are able to act as a guide for the artist to follow so to understand elements of the genre, why the audience like them, how they may be beneficial, and how to issue them. For instance the close up of the artists eye urges the audience to feel as though they are close to the artist as it appears that the artist is providing the audience with much of themselves as they are physically close to the lenses of the camera urging the audience to feel as though they are closer to the artist. As well as the concept of our eyes 'being the window to our souls', often people believe that our eyes are rather intimate parts of our bodies and that you can tell or see a lot about someone by their eyes hence this also makes the audience feel as though the artist is providing them with a deeper insight into who she is as a person and not just as a performer. Which follows codes and conventions of the soul genre as soul artists are known for singing about topics which are more personal to them that artists of other genres, thus often leading the audience to feel as though they have a further insight into the artists life as well as the concept that the artist is providing them with more so to build a stronger relationship with their audience and prove to them that they really do care for them. However artists from the soul genre as also known for being quite edgy and closed off from the people around them. As they often portray themselves to be rather deep thinkers often much deeper than those they find themselves surrounded by. Therefore often become cast as 'loners' almost as they attempt to keep their personal struggles to themselves in their everyday lives and then put them into their music. Hence the idea of showing the artist from a further away image was representative of this and therefore conventional towards the soul genre. This is beneficial as it highlights elements of the artists personality to the audience, seeing this side to the artist the audience may feel as though they are more easily able to relate as they feel that the can understand her struggles, being audience members of the soul genre it is likely that they feel that they can relate to this on some level as they belong to the soul genre therefore they enjoy this style of music and feel as though they have a good understanding of it as they are so use to hearing it. The concept of having the artist further away from the lenses represents this, especially with the contrast between the two shots. Presenting the artist in this way encourages the audience to feel as though this is an artist they can really relate to as not only is she an artist of their chosen genre but she doesn't behave like a typical artist either as it appears that she obtains the kind of mindset of someone from the genre. This kind of shot also allows the artist to convey the Mise en scene of her costume to the audience. Which is good as this is yet another way for the artist to provide herself to the audience as belonging to the soul genre. For this shot I opted for the artist to be wearing a black off the shoulder dress this is conventional as it appeals to the ways in which women dressed in the 1950s-1960s the period in which the genre was created and wasn't developed from. As it shows the artist trying to dress in an attractive style which was thought to be adored by men but isn't too revealing, as what would be considered as revealing now would have been enough more outrageous then. Hence it is important to remember this and stick to the codes and conventions you want to follow so to ensure that you provide the correct experience for the audience without confusing them as to which genre the artist belongs to as this is likely to result in the audience loosing interest.

I found this task to be rather useful as it enabled me to plan out and properly consider the lay out and design for my advert as well as the actual content. For instance it enabled me to consider which songs of the artists would be the best ones to note on the advert alongside the song belonging to my music video so to intense the audience. As well as the style of typography which I took inspiration from other soul artists albums from. As well as any decoration would I would fill the advert with although I drew a few love hearts onto the sheet I'm not too fond of the idea as I think it may almost take away from the classical effect I was trying to  create reminding the audience of that period in time hence I feel the advert may look more professional and be a better representation of the genre without them.

I feel more aware of the photos I will be needing to take as the planning process has enabled me to create a picture in my mind of how I want things to look as well as the kinds of themes and styles I am going for so to promote my artist. For instance I know that I want to display how detached the artist feels from the norms of life by capturing a further away shot compared to what they may be use to seeing on album adverts of the artist. However I'm not sure whether or not I want to use the close up image of the artists eye or not as again I feel this may take away from the effect of the nostalgic themes created within the advert fitting to the soul genre. Which is important as I want the audience to be confident in the fact that this is an artist who belongs to the soul genre. However I do like the effects that this creates so I have decided that I shall collect all images and then apply them in various attempts to by advert using photoshop and decide from their which out come I prefer regarding elements such as which looks the most professional and is easily credited to the soul genre which shall help me to pick my final version for my advert. I also plan to take more photos than those which have been planned so far as I think it will be beneficial to obtain as many images as possible and from there decide which ones work best. On the day I may find that the images I planned aren't looking as great as I had planned in my head but that I'm finding other elements which I'm liking. For instance when shooting in the jazz bar I may decide that I'm really happy with the way I as the artist am dressed, feeling that the conventional Mise en scene elements involved are really fitting towards the genre and that I'm really happy with how the back drop has come out and decide that I want to take images in certain positions from there. However I will do this keeping in mind the conventions towards the genre I want to really highlight and bring across as well as the different shot types e.g. close up, long shot which I want to use to represent the artists mental state and personality.
